Still not quite sure if you’re ready to start flying? Greeley Flight School offers discovery flights, which is a short flight with an instructor where you can fly the plane. If you don’t enjoy the flight, there’s no obligation to continue. If you do enjoy it and decide to continue, you can choose one of our instructors to begin or continue your training.

Ready to kick off your flying journey? Weather you’re beginning flight training, or continuing on from previous flying experience, we’ve got you covered. Beginning flight training is a big step, and we’re here to help you through it.
What do I Need?
Anything with a star (*) icon can be obtained after you begin flight training, but is needed before solo flight. More information for each requirement can be found below.
- Current & Valid US Drivers License & Passport
- Current FAR/AIM (Digital or Paper)*
- E6B (Digital or Analog)*
- iPad with ForeFlight, Garmin Pilot, or other EFB app subscription*
- Ground Course*
- Must be able to obtain at least a 3rd class medical*
- Sectional Charts (Denver or Cheyenne)
- Aviation Logbook
- Renter's Insurance
From Where?
This is required BEFORE you begin flying with us. Please make sure your passport and ID are up to date and not expired before training with us.
The FAR/AIM (Federal Aviation Regulations / Aeronautical Information Manual) updates each year. Physical copies can be bought from Amazon, Sporty’s Pilot Shop, or other pilot stores. A digital copy comes with any ForeFlight plan, or can be bought from the Apple App Store. This is not required to begin training, but should be purchased before you solo.

An E6B is a flight computer which originated in WWII. These computers can be used in a digital or analog format.

As always, other purchase options are available. Just search “E6B flight computer” for other options.
ForeFlight is the most common EFB (External Flight Bag) app among general aviation. Your instructor will be familiar with ForeFlight. Garmin Pilot is another EFB option, although not all instructors are familiar with it.
Plans
- Any ForeFlight plan will work. Only ForeFlight US is needed.
- Any Garmin Pilot plan will work. Only US coverage is needed.
Contact an instructor at dominic@greeleyflightschool.com if you find another EFB app you would prefer to use. Not all EFB services cover everything needed to train here.
Ground courses are required to get a signoff to take the FAA knowledge test.
Beginning pilots must start with the PPL (Private Pilot) course unless they have completed the PPL written exam within 24 calendar months of a checkride.

Contact an instructor at cfi@flighttrekaviation.com if you find another ground school service you would prefer to use. Not all ground schools cover everything needed to complete your course.
The Greeley-Weld County Airport has an aeromedical examiner based on the field. If you would like to schedule a medical exam, please visit https://flightphysical.com/dr-fahrenholtz-23rd-ave. You may also choose AMEs who are closer to you. It is highly recommended to obtain a 1st class medical certificate if you plan to take your career into airlines. This is not a requirement for training, although it’s good to know that you’ll be able to get a medical certificate later.
The FBO at KGXY sells sectional charts. If you need charts, please visit 600 Airport Rd. Greeley, Colorado and ask the front desk for either a Cheyenne or Denver VFR sectional.
The FBO at KGXY also sells pilot logbooks. If you want a customized logbook, you can get those from Sporty’s here.
Greeley Flight School has limited coverage for the benefit Greeley Flight School. In order to be considered a pilot in command (PIC) for any Greeley Flight School aircraft, Client shall hold a valid aircraft non-owners aircraft rental insurance while operating any Greeley Flight School aircraft with the following limits: $1,000,000 liability per occurrence, $100,000 per passenger and $50,000 aircraft value per occurrence. This insurance requirement shall not apply where a Greeley Flight School Certified Flight Instructor is present in the aircraft and operating as PIC. Proof of adequate and valid insurance shall be submitted to Greeley Flight School staff upon request prior to operating any Greeley Flight School aircraft.
